Solution

Aqueous solution means a solution that is made by using water as the solvent.

In a chemical equation, if a compound is in its aqueous form, it can be represented by adding (aq) just adjacent to the required compound.

For example:

2Na(s)+2H2O(l)2NaOH(aq)+H2(g)(Sodium)(water)(Sodiumhydroxide)(Hydrogengas)

In this equation, the Sodium hydroxide is in its aqueous state. Hence, (aq) is written adjacent to it in the chemical equation.
