Question

How will you separate a mixture of iodine, sand and ammonium chloride ?

Open in App
Solution

First the mixture is treated with water where ammonium chloride is soluble in water and sand and iodine remains insoluble. The solution is evaporated to get pure crystals of ammonium chloride. Now the mixture is having sand and iodine. Sand can be separated from iodine by sublimation technique. Sand remains in the china dish which is a non sublimable substance and the iodine is collected in the funnel by condensing the vapours.
