Solution
Filtration: Filtration is defined as the process of separating suspended solid matter from a liquid, by causing the latter to pass through the pores of a membrane, called a filter.
Sublimation: The process in which a solid directly changes into a gaseous state without changing into liquid form is called sublimation
Examples of solids that sublime are ammonium chloride, camphor, and naphthalene.
A mixture of sodium chloride, ammonium chloride and sand can be separated by the following the processes:
Sublime the mixture of sodium chloride, ammonium chloride and sand. On sublimation, ammonium chloride will be separated.
Add water to the remaining mixture, stir the contents and filter. Sand will be separated and sodium chloride will go into the filtrate.
Evaporate the filtrate to dryness. The residue will be sodium chloride.
