Solution
Kerosene and water are immiscible liquids i.e. these liquids do not mix in any proportion.
So these liquids can be separated by using a separating funnel.
The density of kerosene is lesser than that of water, so after some time kerosene forms the upper layer when the mixture is put in the separating funnel and water forms the lower layer being denser.
When the stopcock is opened, all the water is allowed to flow out and is collected in a beaker while the kerosene oil is separated and collected in another beaker.
Hence, the kerosene oil is separated from water by a separating funnel.
