Question

How will you show that there is no change in mass during a chemical reaction?

Open in App
Solution

  • As per the law of conservation of mass, mass is neither created nor destroyed in a chemical reaction.
  • So, there is no change in the total mass of all substances. Only new substances are formed during a chemical reaction.
  • The chemical reaction takes place in the flask.
  • Put a cork on the mouth of the flask so that reactants and products do not spill out of the flask.
  • The mass of the flask and its contents remain the same before as well as after the reaction proving the law of conservation of mass.
