How will you test for the gas which is liberated when hydrochloric acid reacts with an active metals?
Let the active metal be Ca as
Metal + acid = salt + H2
Ca + HCL = CaCl2 + H2
So hydrogen is evolved.
So bring a burning splinter near the mouth of the test tube and it will burn with a pop sound . Which indicates there is hydrogen gas.
Test for the presence of hydrogen gas:-
Hydrogen gas is lighter than air so when you passed the gas which was produced in the above reaction through the soap solution the soap bubbles started to escape from the solution and when place the burner the gas burns with a pop sound .
And we all know that only hydrogen gas burns with a pop sound.
Hope you understood the concept.
