How will you use a measuring cylinder to determine the volume of a solid?

Aim:-To calculate the volume of an irregular solid using a measuring cylinder.

Materials required:-100 mL measuring cylinder, irregular object such as stone, water and thread.

Method:-

1.Fill the measuring cylinder with water till the 50 mL mark.

2.Tie a thread around a stone and lower the stone into the measuring cylinder.

Observation and conclusion:-We will observe that the level of water in the measuring cylinder rises. This is because the stone displaces the water. Note down the new level of water. The rise in level of the water is the volume of the stone.
