Question

How would mapping of the lines of force differ in two bar magnets of unequal pole strength?
On the basis of this concept, explain the statement ‘Magnetic induction is directly proportional to the strength of the inducing magnet.’

Solution

  1. The process in which a magnetic substance becomes a magnet when it is kept near a magnet without there being physical contact between them is called magnetic induction.
  2. The mapping of lines of force differs in the number of lines of force that are coming out or going into the magnetic poles of bar magnets.
  3. If the pole strength of the magnet is more, the number of lines of force will be more than a magnet whose pole strength is less.
  4. Since the lines of force interacting are more, the magnetism induced will be more.
Hence, we can say that the Magnetic induction is directly proportional to the strength of the inducing magnet.
