Conversion of Aniline to Chlorobenzene:-

Step 1: Formation of Diazonium salt

When the Aniline is tested with Sodium nitride and Hydrochloric acid, at a temperature between (0-4)°C produces Diazonium salt of Benzene

Step 2: Formation of Chlorobenzene

This diazonium salt formed then is reacted with Cu2Cl2and Hydrochloric acid to undergo Sandmeyer reaction and produce Chlorobenzene:

This conversion of Aniline to Chlorobenzene is a 2 step reaction.
