Question

How would you detemine if a plant is a monocot or a dicot from its leaf?

Open in App
Solution

Both monocots and dicots form different leaves. Monocot leaves are characterised by their parallel veins. All the veins originate at the base of the leaf and are parallel to each other in each lobe of the leaf, while dicots form “branching veins” also called reticulate venation. Their veins branch out on either side of the leaf from the middle vein, forming a web-like structure.
