By adding a few drops of $A g N O_{3}$ solution to dilute $H C l$ and dil. $H N O_{3}$ .
Dil. $H C l$ reacts with $A g N O_{3}$ to give a white ppt. of $A g C l$ .
${H C l}_{(a q .)} + {A g N O_{3}}_{(a q .)} ⟶ {A g C l}_{(s)} + {H N O_{3}}_{(a q .)}$
On the other hand, there is no reaction observed when dil. $H N O_{3}$ is treated with $A g N O_{3}$ solution.
$H N O_{3} (dil.) + A g N O_{3} ⟶ No reaction$
Hence we can distinguish dil. $H C I$ and dil. $H N O_{3}$ by addition of $A g N O_{3}$ solution.
