How you will test whether a given substance is magnet or not?

1. We can test it by bringing any magnetic material such as iron-nickel or cobalt. If the substance is a magnet, then it will attract magnetic material towards itself.
2. We can also check by bringing a magnetic compass near that substance. If that substance is a magnet, then the compass needle will show some deflection on bringing that material towards it.
