Before the neolithic period, human beings hunted animals for food and gathered food from the wild. They wandered from place to place constantly in search of food and shelter. Human beings were then consumers and did not produce anything.

But in the neolithic period, human beings became producers in the following ways:
Neolithic humans learnt to pursue agriculture and became producers of food.
They built nuanced tools for various purposes and became producers of tools and weapons.
The production of surplus food grains necessitated storage facilities. Thus, they became producers of vessels and pots. The invention of the pottery wheel further.
