Question

Hydrogen can be Prepared from dilute sulphuric acid using zinc but not lead. Give reason

Open in App
Solution

Lead is a less active metal than zinc. Lead reacts with dilute sulphuric acid slowly to release hydrogen but the reaction eventually stops. Lead sulphate formed is insoluble and forms a layer on the metal. This barrier does not allow the acid to come in contact with the metal and thus stops the reaction.
