The thyroid gland gets hyperactive to compensate the deficiency of thyroxine and is visible as a swelling in the throat known as goitre. During pregnancy, thyroid gland gets enlarged and leads to goitre. Even after getting enlarged and hyperactive, thyroid gland produces less thyroxine hormone.
