The reaction of ozone with KI produces I2 as shown below:
O3+2KI+H2O2KOH+I2+O2

I2 converts C2H5OH to CH3CHO first and then, further to Cl3CHO.

The reactions are as follows:
C2H5OH+I2CH3CHO+2HI

CH3CHO+3I2CI3CHO+3HI

Thus, a total of 4 moles of iodine is required to convert 1 mole of C2H5OH to CI3CHO.
