I am a 5-digit number. My ones digit is 3. My hundreds digit is 2 times my ones digit. My tens digit is the sum of ones digit and hundreds digit. My thousands and ten thousands digit is one less than the hundreds digit.

  1. What number am I?
  2. Write my successor.
  3. Am i greater than or less than the number, “ fifty-five thousand nine hundred thirty-six”?
  4. Rearrange my digits to write the smallest number of five digits.

Step I: Finding the number.

The number is having 5-digits.

One's digit=3.

My hundreds digit is 2 times my ones digit=2×3=6.

My tens digit is the sum of ones digit and hundreds digit=3+6=9

My thousands and ten thousands digit is one less than the hundreds digit=6-1=5.

Arranging the number according to the place value chart,

The number is 55693.

Step II: Finding the successor of 55693.

The successor of a given whole number is a number 1 more than the given number.

The successor of 55693=55693+1=55694.

Step III: Checking whether 55693 is greater than or less than “ fifty-five thousand nine hundred thirty-six”.

Fifty-five thousand nine hundred thirty-six can be written as 55936.

So, comparing 55693 and 55936.

Here, the ten thousands and thousands places are same.

So, we will compare the hundreds place. The hundreds place digit in 55693 and 55936 is 6,9 respectively.

Hence, 55693<55936.

Therefore, 55693 is less than 55936.

Step IV: Rearranging the digits of 55693 to obtain the smallest five-digit number.

Arranging the digits of 55693 in increasing order we get, 35569.

So, the smallest five-digit number formed from 55693 is 35569.
