Tanjavur, a place far away from Chennai is home to the Bruhdeshwar temple, also known as Rajarajeshwaram or Periya Kovil. It is called Bruhdeshwar temple because it is dedicated to Lord Shiva! It was built by King Rajaraja- I of the Chola Dynasty. This dynasty ruled in many parts of South India and reached its peak in the 11th century. The temple was built between 1003 AD and 1010 AD.
