Peter Norman was a white Australian athlete who won the silver medal in the 200 metres event of the Mexico Olympics, 1968. He silently supported Tommie Smith and John Carlos. Two Black American athletes, in their protest against racism in the USA. He wore a human rights badge to support the cause. Due to this, he was not selected for the next Australian Olympics. He and the other two medalists of this event remained friends until Peter Norman passed away, aged 64, in the year 2006.
