South India’s first-ever Iron and Steel industry, then known as Mysuru Iron and Steel Industries Limited or MSIL was set up at Bhadravati in Shivamogga district in 1923. Sixty-Six years later, this industry was handed over to Steel Authority of India Limited or SAIL. Today it is known as Visveswaraiah Iron and Steel Industry or VISL.
