Question

(i) Define isobars.
(ii) Which unit is used to measure atmospheric pressure?

Open in App
Solution

1) An isobar is a line on a map that connect points of equal pressure. Isobars can be used to map atmospheric or air pressure in a way that makes it easier to understand. This is also helpful to determine wind direction, because winds blow from high pressure to low pressure areas. They can tell wind speed by how close the isobars are together. The closer they are, the faster the air moves from high to low pressure.

2) Air pressure, is measured by unit of pascal.
