The Ajanta caves are a series of 30 rock-cut Buddhist caves. These are divided into two sections, Chaityas, which are the temple halls for the Buddhist monks and Viharas, which are the monastery where the buddhist monks reside. The caves numbered 9, 10, 19, 26 and 29 are Chaityas whereas the rest of the caves are Viharas. These caves are filled with both beautiful wall paintings and sculptures. The cave numbers of 1, 2, 10, 16 and 17 are known for its cave paintings. The rest have a fair amount of sculptures. These caves are not only famous in India but all over the world for its Buddhist art and sculptures.
