Solution

The correct option is B Ranjit Singh
The great Maharaja Ranjit Singh ruled Punjab from the beginning of the nineteenth century till his demise in 1839. Ranjit Singh had signed the Tripartite Treaty in 1838 with Shah Shujah, the ruler of Afghanistan, and the British. However, he did not accept the terms of the treaty, which would allow the British to enter his territory. He had kept the British at an arm’s distance, but his successors were weak and could not control the British presence.
