Solution

(i) a3+1, b-23=53, 13
By the definition of equality of ordered pairs, we have:
a3+1, b-23=53, 13
a3+1 = 53 and b-23=13a3= 53-1 and b = 13+23a3=23 and b = 1a = 2 and b = 1

(ii) (x + 1, 1) = (3, y − 2)
By the definition of equality of ordered pairs, we have:
(x+1) = 3 and 1 = (y-2)x = 2 and y = 3
