Question

(i) In the following figure, if ED = 10 cm, BG = 8 cm and BE = CD = 9 cm, then find the area of CDF.

(ii) If EG = 5 cm then find the area of BGE.

Solution

(i) If a triangle and a parallelogram are on the same base and between the same parallel, then the area of the parallelogram would be twice the area of the triangle.

Area of EDCB=10×8=80 cm2.

So, area of DFC =12×80=40 cm2

(ii) A(triangleBGE)=12×EG×BG

A(BGE)=12×5×8=20 cm2
