Solution
(i) Photosynthesis is useful to life in the following ways:
All heterotrophs depend on plants for their energy requirements.
The by-product of photosynthesis, oxygen is the main factor responsible for the sustenance of life on the Earth.
(ii) Respiration is said to be reversal of photosynthesis. Oxygen is consumed and carbon dioxide is released in respiration, whereas oxygen is released and carbon dioxide is consumed in photosynthesis.
(iii) Chlorophyll is the green coloured pigment found in chloroplast that helps in the absorption of energy from sunlight. This energy is used in the formation of food from carbon dioxide and water in plants through the process of photosynthesis.
