Question

I sold 125 quintals of potatoes through a commission agent at Rs 1000 per quintal. If I paid a commission of 1.5%, how much money did I get on selling all the potatoes?

Solution

Number of quintals of potatoes = 125
Cost of 1 quintal potatoes sold through commission agent = Rs 1,000
So, the selling price of 125 quintals of potatoes = 125 × 1000 = Rs 1,25,000
Commission = 1.5%
⇒ 1.5% of 1,25,000 =1.5100×125000 = Rs. 1,875
⇒ Money received by the seller after deduction of commission = Rs (1,25,000 − 1,875)
= Rs 1,23,125
∴ Money received on selling the potatoes = Rs 1,23,125
