Given, sum of first n natural numbers $= \frac{1}{2} n^{2} + \frac{1}{2} n$
Sum of first 5 natural numbers. $= \frac{1}{2} (5)^{2} + \frac{1}{2} (5)$ [put n=5]
$= \frac{25}{2} + \frac{5}{2} = \frac{30}{2} = 15$
