Question

I went to a shop with constant speed of 30m/s and came back with 20m/s what is my average speed of travel?

Open in App
Solution

Let 'x' be the distance.

The speed from starting point to shop=30m/s

The speed from shop to starting point =20m/s

Speed =distance/time

Time =distance/speed

Then, the time taken for the journey from starting point to shop = x/30

and the time taken for the journey frim shop to starting point = x/20.

Total time taken = x/30+x/20=5x/60

total distance travelled = 2x.

So, average speed =(2x)/(5x/60)

average speed= 24 m/s
