Solution

i) Sodium is a highly reactive element. It reacts with oxygen when it comes in contact with air and burns. To prevent this it is kept immersed in kerosene.
ii) When dilute hydrochloric acid is added to a reactive metal it reacts to release hydrogen gas. A displacement reaction occurs which results in the formation of the metal chloride and release of hydrogen gas.
