i) There are many reasons which result in the development of cancer such as excessive smoking or alcohol consumption, harmful radiations etc.
There are certain substances called as carcinogens which can develop cancer on contact with the substance. There are certain genetic problems which can cause cancer. Chronic infections of certain viruses may also cause cancer.
ii) Cancer can be detected by certain signs and symptoms or screening tests. Generally, a biopsy is performed to detect the presence of cancerous cells. There are markers present on the cancerous cells. There are proteins produced by these cells which can be identified and tested by screening tests. There are also changes in the levels of certain proteins observed in the normal human body.
