Question

ideal capacitor conduct ac current but not dc why ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student
Capacitors when connected to a dc source allow the electric current to pass through it that is due to potential difference across its plates it continues to increase its charge and whenthe potential difference responsible for driving charging the capacitor vanishes that is it is also charged to acquire the potential equal to the emf of the cell charging it than the current stops. When connected to an ac source it does not stop the current flowing as the cell and hence the nature of charge acquired by the plate of the capacitor keep on changing from positive at one time to the negative at other time and hence charge keeps on oscillating and does not continue to grow like in case of dc chargingRegards
