Identify A and B in the following.
The given diagram is of cartilage where (A) is collagen fibres and (B) is chondrocytes.
Cells of this tissue (chondrocytes) are enclosed in small cavities within the matrix secreted by them. Most of the cartilages in vertebrate embryos are replaced by bones in adults. Cartilage is present in the tip of nose, outer ear joints, between adjacent bones of the vertebral column, limbs and hands in adults.
Collagen fiber is made from fibrous protein subunits linked together to form a long and straight fiber. Collagen fibers are found in various types of connective tissues such as cartilage, tendons, bones and ligaments. They are flexible, have great tensile strength, resist stretching and give ligaments and tendons their characteristic resilience and strength.
