Geometric growth is seen in the explant of tissues in cell culture and in bacteria multiplying in nutrient-rich medium. Under unlimited resources, growth is initially slow because of few cells and later it increases rapidly and will keep increasing if the resources remain unlimited. If we plot such growth against time, J - curve is obtained. But in the natural environment, nutrients are limited and growth slows and leads to a stationary phase. Therefore curve forms S-shape.
