The correct option is C
First reaction is the crossed-Cannizaro reaction in which formaldehyde is reacted with another aldehyde and the formaldehyde reduces the aldehyde to alcohol and it itself oxidized to formic acid.
In second step, abstraction of H from alcohol group happens followed nucleophilic substitution.
Another nucleophilic substitution in third step on treating with HI.

Hence, the product 'A' is (c).
