σσ bond, is basically a covalent bond formed due to the overlap of atomic orbitals along the inter-nuclear axis.
ππ bond is formed due to the lateral overlapping of the atomic orbitals perpendicular to the internuclear plane. So, now if you take the spherical s-orbital and form a bond(only one bond is formed between two orbitals) since it is symmetric( from all perspective),any bond formed will lie along the inter-nuclear plane( more precisely axis), therefore it will always be σσ bond.
