Body symmetry is a major criteria for classification. There are 3 types of body symmetry based on which animals can be classified:

• Asymetrical body - no imaginary cut on any axis of the body gives two equal halves. Ex: amoeba
• Bilateral symmetry - body type containing only one axis through which an imaginary cut can result in two equal halves. Ex: human beings, salamander, pigeon, earthworms, etc.
• Radial symmetry - body type in which an imaginary cut through any axis of the body results in two equal halves. Ex: starfish, sea anemone, jellyfish, etc.
