Ethmoid Sphenoid Frontal Parietal Temporal Occipital
The cranium, made up of cranial bones, is the portion that houses the brain. There are a total of 8 cranial bones, including 2 temporal bones, 2 parietal bones, 1 frontal bone, 1 occipital bone, 1 sphenoid bone and 1 ethmoid bone. These project from either side of the central body of the bone, called the Pterygoid processes.Ethmoid bone has lots of perforations through which the olfactory nerve, the nerve that senses smell, leaves the nose on its way to the brain. It is this perforation that give it its name. The sphenoid forms the base of the cranium as well as forming part of the orbit that houses the eye, amongst other function.
