Identify the cation for the reaction NH4OH solution when added to the solution (B) gives white precipitate which does not dissolve in excess?

Open in App
Solution

When Lead nitrate(Solution B) reacts with ammonium hydroxide(NH4OH), a white gelatinous precipitate is formed which is insoluble in excess of ammonium hydroxide.

Pb(NO3)2 (aq)+ 2NH4OH (aq)⇢ Pb(OH)2 + 2NH4NO3 (aq)

The white gelatinous precipitate is Lead hydroxide which is insoluble in excess of Ammonium hydroxide.

The cation present is Pb2+
