Grignard reagent is prepared by the reaction of alkyl bromide with magnesium in the presence of dry ether.

Attack of Grignard reagent on $C O_{2}$ (electrophilic center)

The nucleophile $(R^{δ} -)$ of the Grignard reagent attacks the electron-deficient centre of $C O_{2}$ . Then, $C O_{2}$ gets converted into carboxylic acid on further hydrolysis.

Esterification

The carboxylic acid reacts with CH_3OH in the presence of an acid to form an ester. This reaction is known as an esterification reaction.
