The right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the body through the vena cava. Right atrium contracts and passes the blood to the right ventricle. The right ventricle contracts and the deoxygenated blood is carried by the pulmonary artery to the lungs. After the exchange of gases in the lungs, the deoxygenated blood becomes oxygenated blood and is then carried by the pulmonary vein to the left atrium. The left atrium contracts and passes the oxygenated blood to the left ventricle. The left ventricle contracts and the oxygenated blood is pumped through the aorta which divides into arteries and then the oxygenated blood reaches various parts of the body.
