Liver is the largest gland in the body. It contains hepatic lobules which are structural and functional units of the liver. Hepatic lobules contain hepatic cells that produce bile juice. Bile juice digests large globules of fat and converts them into small globules of fat. It is transported and stored in the gallbladder through a duct called a hepatic duct. The gallbladder duct called cystic duct along with the hepatic duct is termed common bile duct. The common bile duct and pancreatic duct then open together form the hepatopancreatic duct before opening into the duodenum. This duct is further guarded by a muscular valve called the sphincter of Oddi.
