Solution

Double displacement reaction and also Precipitation reaction.

Definition of double displacement reaction

It is a type of displacement reaction in which products obtained by interchanging the ions of reactants. Usually an insoluble substance is formed as a result of this reaction. So it is also called precipitation reaction.

AB+ CD AD+ CB

  • AgNO3(aq)+HCl(aq)AgCl(s)+HNO3(aq)
  • In the above reaction, the products obtained by interchanging the Silver ion (Ag+) and Hydrogen ion(H+) of reactant.
  • As a result of this reaction Silver chloride(AgCl) is precipitated.
  • That is when Silver nitrate react with Hydrogen chloride, Silver chloride is precipitated as a result of exchange of Silver ion (Ag+) and Hydrogen ion(H+).
  • Hence it is a double displacement reaction and also Precipitation reaction.
