A colourless gas, having a pungent and irritating smell, which turns blue litmus red. It gives dense white fumes when a glass rod is dipped in ammonium hydroxide solution is held in it.
Hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas is a strong-smelling colourless gas with an irritating odour that fumes in moist air.
It gives dense fumes as shown below:-
Ammonia (NH3) gas and Hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas combine to form a solid called Ammonium chloride (NH4Cl).
