Solanaceae is a dicot family that includes herbs, shrubs, and a few trees. Exstipulate leaves are those without stipules. The flowers are complete (all floral whorls present) and have a bicarpellary, syncarpous (carpels united), superior ovary. The ovary is generally bilocular (two chambers) having swollen placenta with obliquely placed multiple ovules. Fruits are berry or capsules. Whereas, in a unilocular ovary, the ovary is not divided into separate chambers by a septum. There is only one chamber or the locule.
