Neuron is the structural and functional unit of the nervous system. It conducts information in the form of electrical impulses.
The dendrites receive the impulse which flows through the axon.
On reaching the axon terminal, chemical messengers called neurotransmitters are released.
These chemicals cross the synapse and initiate a similar electrical impulse in the dendrite of next neuron.
This is how nervous impulses travel in the body.
