Question

Identify the most reactive and least reactive metal from the following-

Hg,Na,Fe,Ag

Open in App
Solution

The reactivity series is a grouping of metals ordered by reactivity from highest to lowest.

Sodium (Na) is the most reactive metal of the possibilities since it ranks first in the reactivity series, so it can replace metals that are lower in the series.

Iron (Fe) situated in the middle of the reactivity series.

Mercury (Hg) and Silver (Ag) are towards the bottom of the reactivity series. Silver (Ag) is the least reactive metal of the possibilities since it ranks last in the activity series.

Hence, the most reactive meta is Sodium (Na) and the least reactive metal is Silver (Ag).

The metals can be arranged in the reactivity order as Sodium(Na)>Iron(Fe)>Mercury(Hg)>Silver(Ag).
