An oxidising agent is the one which oxidises other substances(by removal of hydrogen or addition of oxygen) and itself gets reduced (addition of hydrogen or removal of oxygen).
V2O5+5Ca→2V+5CaO
In above reaction, vanadium (V) oxide (V2O5) acts as an oxidising agent as it oxidises calcium (Ca) to form calcium oxide (CaO) and vanadium (V).
