Question

Identify the pair(s) of functions which are identical.
i) y=sin(arctanx); y=x1+x2
(ii) y=cos(arctanx); y=sin(arccotx).
(iii) y=tan(cos1x); y=1x2x
iv) y=tan(cot1x); y=1x

Solution

i) sin(arctanx)=sin(tan1x)=sin(sin1x1+x2)=x1+x2.
ii) cos(arctanx)
=cos(tan1x)
=cos(π2cot1x)
=sin(arccotx)
iii) tan(cos1x)
=tan(tan11x2x)
=1x2x
iv) tan(cot1x)=tan(tan11x)=1x.
So, given all the pairs are identical.
