Solution

The parent acids in the given salts are:

  1. An acid is a substance which gives H+ ions when dissolved in water. The pHof acids is less than 7. Some examples of acids are, H2SO4,HCl,HNO3,H2CO3
  2. A base is a substance which gives hydroxide ions when dissolved in water. The pH of bases is more than 7. Some examples of bases are, NaOH,KOH.
  3. The reaction of acid and base gives a salt. For the formation of salts, the anionic part of acid and cationic part of base is involved.
  4. The parent acids and bases in given compounds are:

1. Na2CO3-Sodium Carbonate (salt), Acid = H2CO3 and Base = NaOH

2. Na2SO4 -Sodium Sulphate (salt), Acid = H2SO4 and Base = NaOH

3. CaCO3 - Calcium Carbonate (salt), Acid = H2CO3 and Base = Ca(OH)2

4. CuSO4 - Copper Sulphate (salt), Acid = H2SO4 and Base = Cu(OH)2

5. Al2(SO4)3 - Aluminium Sulphate (salt), Acid = H2SO4 and Base = Al(OH)3
